Established in London in c1446 by the Medici family bank at Florence which existed throughout the 15th century. London was one of several branches. Lent especially to the English King, Edward IV, and to aristocrats and financed trade. Reorganised in 1465 and closed 1478 when in difficulties following the overthrow of Edward and his inability to repay debts
