J W Richardson, 1837-1908, established in 1860 the important shipbuilders John Wigham Richardson & Co which in 1903 merged with C S Swan & Hunter Ltd to form Swan Hunter & Wigham Richardson Ltd. Seven chapters are taken from 'autobiographical papers' covering 1837-1873. The remaining ten chapters are based on 'his letters and other writings and upon information supplied by relatives and friends'. Provides some coverage of his business career
