Provides a narrative history of the Bridgewater Estates in Cheshire and Lancashire centred on the village of Worsley and developed by the 3rd Duke of Bridgewater, d1803, and subsequently owned by his Trustees and later the Earls of Ellesmere; their sale in 1923 by 4th Earl to Bridgewater Estates Ltd in return for, inter alia, debentures; the gradual consolidation of the estate's wide ranging assets, the settlement of debts to the Ellesmeres in 1840s and the emergence of Bridgewater Estates Ltd, later Plc, as a modern property company
