Structured in two volumes. Volume 1 provides transcriptions of Cumberland House Journals, 1775-76, 1776-77, 1777-78, 1778-79, kept variously by Matthew Cocking, William Walker, William Tomison, Joseph Hansom. There are also transcriptions of an 'Inland Journal' kept by Robert Longmoor and of 'Supplementary Documents'. Volume 2 provides transcriptions of Cumberland House Journals 1779-80, 1780-81, 1781-82, kept variously by William Walker, William Tomison, George Hudson. There are also transcriptions of 'Hudson House Journals'' 1779-80, 1780-81, 1781-82, kept variously by William Tomison, Robert Longmoor, James Elpinstone, William Walker. There are also transcriptions of supplementary documents. Cumberland House was the first inland trading post established by the company [Samuel Hearne], in 1774, near Pine Island Lake, close to the River Saskatchewan. The journals record the establishment and activities of the post and were written up by successive managers of the post
