Provides an account of the house and its occupants along with the building of the house and its estate and the accumulation of an art collection. The house was built for Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild, 1839-98, whose father, Baron Anslem de Rothschild, headed the Rothschild family's Vienna bank. He married Evelina de Rothschild, daughter of Baron Lionel de Rothschild of the family's London branch. From an early age he lived in London and became a British subject.
