Sir George Bolton, 1900-82, was a senior official of the Bank of England and, from 1957, Chairman of the Bank of London & South America (BOLSA). Contains three introductory chapters by Richard Fry, formerly Financial Editor of the 'Guardian', covering: 'Rebirth of the City' - post 1945; 'At the Bank of England' where from the 1930s he managed the sterling exchange account / exchange controls / external financial policy; and 'Dawn of a new era' - his work from1950s. Otherwise contains eight writings by him on British economic policy, the sterling system, 'Britain's role in the world', etc. Also a short account of BOLSA under Bolton [pp202-19]
