Notes:

Deals with the relationship between corporate governance and personal capitalism in British manufacturing, c1900-c50, based on five case studies of leading British engineering companies. Considers in particular the Chandlerian paradigm that the long-running persistence of personal capitalism shaped the governance of British manufacturing firms, eroding their competitive performance. The case studies are BSA, Hadfields, Alfred Herbert, Greenwood & Batley, Raleigh. For the case studies see separate BHE entries
