Draws on the writer's doctoral thesis ' British Textile Exports to the Southern Cone during the First Half of the Nineteenth Century. Growth, structure and marketing chain', Leicester University, 2009. A major study exploring the volume and nature of the export trade in group of British manufactured goods to a particular region - namely the trade in British manufactured textile goods largely to Argentina, Chile and Uruguay and largely in the first half of the 19th century. Dealing with volumes - which are found to be notably large - and the structure of the trade - notably the relations between manufacturers and merchants covering both the supply and demand side and the means by which the trade was financed. Many references to individual merchant houses, notably Huth & Co. Structured in three parts: Part 1] 'The trade data'; 'Part 2] 'The market chain'; Part 3] 'Explaining the data'. Has chapters: Part 1] 'Britain's textile exports to the Southern Cone - the data'; Part 2] 'The main links in the market chain'; 'Knowing, adapting to, and managing demand'; 'Contracts and commissions'; 'Paying for textiles - return remittances'; Part 3] Developments in the industrialising core'; 'Developments on the Southern Cone'; 'Conclusions'. Extensive, mostly, statistical appendices [pp291-350]
