'Working paper' published by University of Liverpool Dept of Civic Design. Deals with employee housing schemes of Pilkington Brothers immediately before and immediately after the First World War, describing the schemes; the contexts in which they existed; the process of planning, design, construction; etc. The schemes were: 1] Ravenhead Garden Suburb, adjacent to Ravenhead Works, St Helens, planned for 1909-15 but scarcely proceeded with; 2] Eccleston Hall Estate Garden Village, a much larger scheme including housing for c4,000 but only c100 houses built. Pilkington Garden Village Ltd was set up to handle the project in 1919 but wound up 1922; 3] Kirk Sandall Garden Village, near Doncaster, built in early 1920s to serve the employees at a new glassworks. c600 houses built by 1925 in addition to civic buildings, etc
