Notes:

Very largely comprises standalone regional studies covering the West Indies, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and East Africa, with only a short introduction commenting on the economic basis of British imperialism. There is a short concluding essay. This study seeks to identify and analyse involvement of British capitalism / London firms in selected areas of Britain's formal empire [Malaya, Singapore, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Jamaica, Trinidad, [British] Guiana] and the extent to which this was influenced by and integrated with the imperial government and economy via the Colonial Office. Deals with the extent and nature of British owned / controlled interests, their management, the extent to which underlying policy was established in London, etc. Deals especially with the 1930s-40s period and contains much business specific information notably on British agency houses and the local businesses they controlled / managed, and on specific commodities - sugar, rubber, tea, etc. Much based on interviews with Colonial Office officials and business people
