Notes:
Deals with a c1970 strike at Pilkingtons when a group of workers walked out over 'wage miscalculations', soon bringing the entire plant to a standstill. This was an unofficial strike which lasted seven weeks and became a cause celebre. Written by lectures in social sciences who observed the strike at first hand. Regarded as 'the first full account of any strike to appear in the UK' in which the writers 'discuss in detail what happened to management and union, unofficial strike committee and rank and file members. Their purpose is not to supply answers, but to strip away the myths, ignorance and emotive non-solutions that surround the word 'strike''. The strike was not supported by unions and resulted in anti-union legislation. There was a subsequent enquiry into the strike
