Traced origins to 1820s when Robert W Winfield, 1799-1869, joined with others to establish Union Rolling Mills. 1827-9 he took out patent for production of brass bedsteads. By 1829 the Mills were operated solely by him. Sometime known as R W Winfield & Co and by 1850s known as R W Winfield & Sons. By mid 19th century largest brass founders/product manufacturers in Birmingham with a brass foundry, rolling mills and wire drawing/tube making facilities. Made brass furniture, especially beds and chairs, light fittings, chandeliers, art and ecclesiastical metal work, etc. Incorporated 1887 as Winfields Ltd. 1897-8 in receivership and closed c1900
