Notes:

Traced origins to Andrew Stewart who established a tube making business in Glasgow in 1862 and to Edward and Samuel Lloyd who as Lloyd & Lloyd established a tube works in Birmingham in 1859. The Stewart business moved to Coatbridge in 1867 and was incorporated as A & J Stewart Ltd in 1882. 1890 Stewarts merged with Stewart Brothers Ltd and Clydesdale Iron & Steel Co Ltd to form A & J Stewart & Clydesdale Ltd. 1898 acquired James Menzies & Co Ltd to form A J Stewart & Menzies Ltd. In 1903 the two leading British tube makers, the Stewart and Lloyd businesses, merged to form Stewarts & Lloyds Ltd. Acquired coal, iron ore and steel making assets including Alfred Hickman Ltd / Lloyds Ironstone Co Ltd in 1920 and Islip Iron Co Ltd in 1930. Built large Corby Iron & Steel Works on greenfield site in early 1930s. Nationalised as part of British Steel Corp 1967
