Traced origins to 1811 when owned by a Mr Churcher. Subsequently acquired by Robert Hovenden, 1803-72, when wholesale perfumerer, making oils for men's hair, at Finsbury, central London. The business was subsequently acquired by Robert Hovenden, 1830-1908, who grew it so that it was not only a maker of perfumes but also was a hairdresser of men / barber.
