Established 1928 by Cyril Hemmings, 1896-1967, at Laurel Road, Liverpool, to build insulated cabinets for refrigeration machinery - notably ice cream cabinets for local ice cream manufacturers and retailers. Soon producing whole cool rooms. Emerged as a major supplier to Lyons. 1938 acquired assets of local competitor, Hall, Crabtree & Heap. Post 1945 pioneered development of polyurethane panels for refrigeration especially for retail display units.1959 incorporated. Late 1960s focused on construction of cold stores, especially for supermarkets. c1972 relocated to modern factory at Prescot. In 2003 carried on by two businesses, Hemsec Manufacturing and Hemsec Installations, employing in total c50 plus sub-contractors. Continues in 2012
