Developed as a major London merchant bank handling bond issues and giving corporate financial advice. 1920 merged with British Bank of Northern Commerce Ltd to form Hambros Bank of Northern Commerce Ltd before reverting to Hambros Bank Ltd. Much of its business acquired by Société Générale in 1998
