Traces origins to before 1677. Initially perfumers and, later, also soapmakers. Initially in City of London, from c1890s in Blackfriars Rd. Traded under several names including John Price, John Price & Son, Price & Gosnell and John Gosnell & Co, the latter style being used fairly consistently from 1830s. Royal warrant holders from at least 1842. In decline after 1918. Acquired by new owners 1930s and relocated to Lewes in 1939 where business continues as a perfume house
