Established 1969 as Fusion (Bickenhill) Ltd as a mobile welding service. It took on a 'specialist machine, one man, one team' [SMOMOT) project that had been abandoned by Land Rover. In 1970 premises were acquired at Solihull and production of vacuum tankers commenced. In 1973 mobile welding was given up and in 1974 Whale Tankers Ltd was established. Product development included the Jetvac, a vacuum tanker with sewer jetting kit. Whale Tanker Hire Ltd was set up and Whale Saudi Arabia was established in 1980. In 1984 a strong competitor, Molex, collapsed when its name and assets were acquired. 1987 Buckingham Vehicles of Kenilworth were also acquired. Deeward Engineering Ltd was established to handle Scottish business
