Richard Lowe, 1716-85, in due course inherited the estate. He was a wealthy woollen draper in London and a contractor for the supply of clothing to the army. He established an interest in the bankers Raymond William Vere & Fletcher, who were later to emerge as Williams Deacon's Bank, and also developed the family's coal mines.
