Notes:

Traced origins to early 19th century when, in 1825, Jonathan Downton established a business making pumps (to a pioneering design) and other fittings for ships. 1857 Thomas Blundell established a brassfoundry making a wide range of fittings, etc, for ships, factories, etc. In about 1865 these two businesses merged to trade as Thomas Blundell & Sons, later as Blundell Brothers and, in 1875, as The London Copper & Brass Works. In 1881, when in financial difficulties, acquired by W R N Grimley who re-established the business as Blundells London Copper & Brass Works Ltd in 1886. In 1890s T Albert Crompton, a consulting engineer trading as T Albert Crompton & Co, became associated with the business which then started to manufacture a ship ash hoist he had designed. 1905 opened a plant at Tilbury. 1910 reorganised as Blundells London Copper & Brassworks (1910) Ltd and in 1922 this business acquired T Albert Crompton & Co. 1931 renamed Blundells & T Albert Crompton & Co Ltd. 1950s and 60s gave up ash hoist manufacture to focus on other ship equipment, especially valves and flame arresters, and brewing equipment
