Traced origins to Edward Boustead, d1888, who arrived in Singapore in c1828 and established a merchant house there soon afterwards. Soon in partnership with Gustave Schwabe as Boustead & Co; Schwabe had strong connections with a Liverpool house. Subsequently developed an important presence in Malaya and established offices at Penang and, in c1851, at London where known as Edward Boustead & Co. Exported commodities from Malaya and imported goods from Britain. Developed as an agency business providing services to local, notably rubber plantations, and overseas businesses as well as taking investment stakes in local businesses. Incorporated 1918. Reorganised in 1960 when Edward Boustead & Co of London became a separate business from the Malaysia / Singapore business of Boustead & Co Ltd which was locally registered. The latter was renamed Boustead Holdings Berhad in 1966 and was Malaysian owned from 1976. Continuing in 2020
