Succeeded by his son, John, c1705-84, who developed a major shipbuilding business, building in particular third rate vessels for Navy Board. In order to build larger naval vessels, from 1840s leased King's Yard, Harwich, from Navy Board. 1755-71 in partnership with John Turner. Bankrupt 1771. In 1763 William Barnard started shipbuilding at Deptford. Also built for East India Co. Closed early 19th century
