Notes:

Established in late 19th century by Thomas T Boughton, 1874-1959, as T T Boughton & Sons. By 1902 operated two traction engines. Developed a large fleet of traction engines and steam wagons for agricultural contracting (especially threshing and ploughing, land clearance and road haulage). Took interests in local businesses, eg brickworks and sand pits, in order to obtain work, and much involved in the round timber business. From 1937 started to acquire motor lorries and tractors but in 1945 still had 25 sets of steam traction engines. Agricultural contracting business ended early 1950s following introduction of combine harvester. Family business then embraced sawmilling, road haulage and engineering, the latter including notably the manufacture of equipment for timber handling and specialist cross country military vehicles. Haulage interests sold in 1980s. Engineering interests acquired by Manrow Venture Partners. Sometime renamed Boughton International and continues as Broughton Engineering Ltd [2024]
