Traced origins to the perfume and soap making business established by the Cleaver family in London in 1770 and acquired by William Yardley, d1824, in very early 19th century. By 1841 known as Yardley & Statham. Plant at East Stratford. 1890 [1884?] incorporated as Yardley & Co Ltd. By early 20th century plant based at Stratford, London. After 1900 revived by focus on upmarket perfumes through development of Yardley brand. Opened retail unit West End in 1910. Public company 1920. 1967 acquired by British American Tobacco Co Ltd, later by Beechams, and later by Wella. In 2005 acquired by Lornamead Group
