Traced origins to Philip Booth who had a distilling business at Clerkenwell by 1770s which by 1778 was known as Philip Booth & Co. Business inherited, inter alia, by his son, (Sir) Felix, 1775-1850, who developed it into the UK's largest gin distiller with plant at Clerkenwell and Brentford. He also owned a cognac distillery in London and Royal Brewery at Brentford. Originally incorporated as Booth & Co & Grimble's Distillery Ltd and reincorporated 1897 as Booth's Distillery Ltd, a public company. Thereafter expanded rapidly. c1937 acquired by The Distillers Co Ltd
