Traced origins to William Jolley, d1849, in 1823, woollen and linen draper. 1834 joined by Samuel Boothroyd, 1814-76, and as Jolley & Boothroyd developed as a leading Southport drapers. 1850 renamed Boothroyd Son & Co. By 1860s described as drapers, cabinet makers, carpet warehousemen and Venetian blind makers. Also involved in undertaking. By 1876 known as Boothroyd, Son & Rimmer when more or less a department store. 1972, when known as Boothroys (Southport) Ltd, absorbed by local competitor Broadbents of Southport Ltd when known as Broadbents & Boothroyds
