Traced origins to Hagues & Cook established in 1811 by John and Edward Hague and Thomas Cook, d1861, who had important banking interests, at Dewsbury Mills. Initially manufactured just woollen yards on a commission basis for nearby clothiers but also dealt in blankets and heavy cloths.1815 started heavy woollen cloth manufacture, in particular making blankets in which they became a world leader. Early on led by Thomas Cook who developed important direct sales into the USA market via Thomas Dixon & Co of New York. Major customers in early 19th century were British government departments, notably Navy Board and Board of Ordnance, and the USA market. Later known, inter alia, as Hagues Cook & Wormald and Wormalds & Walker. Incorporated 1893
