Benedict Webb, 1563-after 1626, was a clothier and merchant trading in cloth internationally. Set up in business on his own account in 1589 at Taunton and in 1595 moved to Kingswood to take over the business of his father. Emerged as a leading clothier, pioneering new processes and products. 1605 established an innovative rapeseed oil mill to make oil for cloth dressing for which he grew the seed. Lobbyist of the government on behalf of the industry and otherwise an agent on behalf of the government [2023]
