In particular made foundry ordnance such as cannon. In 1778 Samuel joined Richard Fishwick and Archer Ward in developing a leading lead products business, especially white and red lead, at Newcastle upon Tyne; additional plant in London (1785), Derby (1792) and Chester (1800) were subsequently established via separate partnerships. Lead smelting was also undertaken. Warehouse complex at Liverpool established in 1801-02. The lead business was conducted under several titles but most often as Walker, Parker & Co, Walkers, Parker & Co, or derivations of these. Iron and steel business of Samuel Walker & Co was dissolved in 1830s after which Walkers took greater interest in Sheffield & Rotherham Bank. Walker family managed lead business until 1893 when reconstructed as Walkers Parker & Co Ltd. 1930 amalgamated with Associated Lead Manufacturers Ltd but continued under existing title until 1948
