Notes:

Traced origins to Henry Blundell who established a brushmaking business at Hull in 1810. 1811 in partnership with William Spence. Soon focused on colour, paint and varnish manufacture. 1830-45 made candles. London branch opened 1837 which subsequently manufactured. 1874 incorporated. Profit sharing scheme introduced 1884. 1889 reconstructed. By end of 19th century a leading producer. Overseas branches opened 1920s and 30s. 1969 merged with Permoglaze Ltd
