Traced origins to 1790 when James Toplis started business. By 1811 he was 'surveyor of stock' to the leading Sun Fire Office. From 1824 auctioned fire salvage for insurance companies. 1867 known as Toplis & Harding. 1911 opened the first of many branch offices, at Manchester and Paris. Emerged as a major internationally spread loss adjusting and surveying business. Management buy out 1990. 1990s further restructured when many overseas offices bought by management
