From 1853 known as Smith & Ashby, from 1857 as T W Ashby & Co, from 1868 as Ashby & Jeffery. 1877 Edward Blackstone, b1850, joined when known as Jeffery & Blackstone. 1889 incorporated as Blackstone & Co Ltd. By 1900 manufacture of agricultural machinery and of oil engines were major activities followed by diesel engines after c1920. c1920 became part of Agricultural & General Engineers Ltd and in 1936 acquired by R A Lister & Co Ltd, Dursley, to form Lister Blackstone. Later known as Mirrlees Blackstone.
