From late 1830s the two businesses came under full control of Blackie family when known as Blackie & Sons, publishers, and W G Blackie & Co, printers. Subsequently merged as Blackie & Son Ltd, a public company, in 1890. At various times specialised in religious, reference, educational, children's and scientific books. Sold books by subscription. Ceased publishing 1990s
