Ordered from USA and commissioned a major hot strip mill from 1937. Fully integrated iron and steel plant by early 1950s. Nationalised 1951 and subsequently privatised. 1967 renationalised as part of British Steel Corp, the site subsequently developing as a major centre for production of coated strip products
