Sold by him in 1863 to the newly formed Staveley Collieries & Ironworks Co Ltd incorporated for the purpose. Later known as Staveley Coal & Iron Co Ltd. Initially produced iron and castings especially pipes but gradually chemical production became important, especially from 1914-18. Also mined coal and iron ore. In 1948 a reconstruction resulted in the creation of an operating company named Staveley Iron & Chemical Co Ltd which was nationalised in 1951. 1955 acquired the nationalised Sheepbridge Iron & Coal Co Ltd. 1960 was denationalised through acquisition by Stewarts & Lloyds Ltd which subsequently merged it with their subsidiary, Stanton Ironworks Co Ltd, to form Stanton & Staveley. 1967 this business was renationalized as part of iron and steel renationalisation and became part of British Steel Corp. The other interests of the business of Staveley Coal & Iron Co Ltd which were not nationalised were subsequently carried on Staveley Industries Ltd.
