Formed in 1960 when Stewarts & Lloyds acquired the nationalized Staveley Iron & Chemical Co Ltd, as part of iron and steel denationalisation, and merged it with its subsidiary Stanton Ironworks Co Ltd. Originally iron production, coal mining, iron ore mining and especially manufacture of iron pipes, tunnel segments, street furniture, etc. Also production of chemical by-products. 1967 renationalised to become part of British Steel Corp and subsequently sold to Pont a Mouson Group
