Traces origins to 1885 when Ralph Slazenger started manufacture of India rubber and other sports goods in London. These included in particular tennis and golf balls, rackets and clubs. Expanded rapidly and obtained widespread recognition and prestige as long term suppliers to Wimbledon Championships from 1902. Incorporated 1911 (as a public company?). 1920s opened overseas manufacturing plant. Early 1940s merged with chief competitors, House of Ayres, William Sykes and Harry Gradidge to form Slazengers Sykes Gradidge & Ayres Group. 1959 acquired by Dunlop Rubber Co Ltd where operated as part of its International Sports Co Ltd division. Subsequently had other owners. Continues as a brand
