Traced origins to 1819 when Augustus Siebe, a German engineer settled in Soho and later his firm was at Lambeth. 1830s started to make diving equipment, intially diving dress and, later, diving bells, pressure chambers, etc. 1960s diversified into scuba gear and in 1970s into breathing apparatus for firefighters, etc. 1975 moved from Chessington to Cwmbran and in 1985 acquired Comp Air. Subsequently divested diving equipment, etc, manufacture to Norcross and continued as an engineering group which grew substantially by acquisition. Known as Siebe Plc. 1999 merged with BTR Plc to form Invensys Plc
