Notes:

Traces origins to 1858 when established by Harold Billington, 1826-97, as an importer of tea and coffee, later sugar, rice, oil cake, etc. Sugar became most important. Incorporated 1898. By 1900 also manufacturing, eg syrup and, later, cattle feed. Later 1930s acquired spice business of Wright Crossley & Co Ltd so that by 1939 focused on sugar importing and manufacture/processing of cattle feed and spices. c1941 acquired Central Tin Canister Co Ltd, maker of tin boxes, initially for spice packing. Latterly also interests in meat and travel agency. Continues as a leading privately owned business with interests in animal feeding stuffs production, condiments production, agricultural commodity trading, etc
