Traces origins to 1744 when the Scottish Ministers' Widows' Fund was established by the Church of Scotland. 1930 this Fund and the Funds of other Scottish churches merged into the Churches & Universities (Scotland) Widows' & Orphans' Fund. These Funds included the Free Church of Scotland Widows' & Orphan's Fund, the United Presbyterian Ministers' Friendly Society and the Friendly Society of Dissenting Ministers of Scotland. Today the Fund is reckoned the first actuarial based fund in the world to be established. Continuing in 2014
