Notes:

Established as Ryder & Son in early 1890s by Samuel Ryder, 1858-1936, to grow and retail garden seeds by post in penny packets. Grew rapidly to become a sector leader. 1922 Ryder established Heath & Heather Ltd to deal in herbs. In 1966 R & G Cuthbert, subsequently part of Sutton Seeds, acquired Ryders, and in 1968 Herbs & Heather was sold to Associated Health Foods Ltd. Samuel Ryder was far better known for his establishment of Ryder Cup golf championship
