Traces origins to 1698 making it the oldest UK wine merchant. Early on owned by the Bourne and Pickering families and then referred to grocers notable for their coffee sales. From the outset located in the St James's area of central London, at 3 St James's Street. c1754 the Pickerings introduced John Clarke as a partner and in c1810 his grandson, George Berry joined the business when it increasingly focused on wine. By mid 19th century known as Berry Brothers. Supplied royal family from 1760 and royal warrant holders from early 20th century. Hugh Rudd joined in 1920. 1923 introduced with great success the Cutty Sark brand of whisky. 1940s incorporated as Berry Bros & Rudd Ltd. Continues in 2013
