Traces origins to ancient times and had a monopoly of coin production from 16th century. 1809 moved to East Smithfield site from Tower of London where it had been based from 1279. In modern times developed a large business in making coins for foreign governments, etc. Also produces military medals. Moved to Llantrisant between 1968-75
