Established as merchants in Manchester in 1799 by Nathan Mayer Rothschild, 1777-1836, in particular participating in the textile trade. He was son of Meyer Amschel Rothschild, 1744-1812, of Frankfurt, founder of the Rothschild banking dynasty.
