Traces origins to John B Robinson, 1802-69, who in 1839 established a pill box making business at Chesterfield. 1850s diversified into making wound dressing materials such as lint, cotton wool, gauze, etc. Also started making other box types. Incorporated 1893. 1890s started manufacture of cellulose wadding for use, inter alia, in hygiene products. Also developed a printing business in support of box making. Expanded rapidly in 20th century to employ 2,500 by 1945. Post war diversified into cardboard/plastic packaging for food industry. 1980s renamed Robinsons Packaging. 1998 divested heathcare products division. 2004 floated on AIM Market. Continues as Robinson Plc
