Traced origins to c1881 when established in Manchester by George Benson, 1861-1917, and his cousin, Thomas, 1859-1935. Always traded as George Benson. Both had formerly worked for the former's brother, Richard, 1849-1922, organ builder in Dublin and, later, Norwich. Built, serviced and tuned organs, mostly in churches and chapels, especially in south Lancashire. At busiest 1900-07 and thereafter in decline. Business wound up following George's death in 1917 when tuning contracts sold to Harrison & Harrison
