Developed tile manufacturing machinery making business and expanded internationally, especially into Europe. Converted to a public company in 1955 by reverse take over of Bursledon Brick Co Ltd when top company known as Redland Holdings Ltd. Subsequently diversified into other building products, eg concrete pipes through acquisition of Norcon Ltd in mid 1950s, bricks through acquisition of Eastwoods Ltd's brick making operations in 1963, plasterboard in 1990. Acquired Steetley Plc in 1992 and sold brick making interests to Ibstock in 1993. Acquired by Lafarge SA of France in 1997 when a leading UK public company
