Traced origins to Richard and Francis Bach who in 1852 established a general engineering business at Birmingham. 1866 business acquired by George E Belliss, d1909, and Joseph J Seekings as Belliss & Seekings. Built portable steam engines, flour and mortar mills, contractors' locomotives, etc. Subsequently known as G E Belliss & Co. From 1870s also made marine engines especially for small warships. 1884 Alfred Morcom, d1905, joined business which in 1899 was incorporated as Belliss & Morcom Ltd when quoted on Birmingham Stock Exchange. 1968 merged with W H Allen Sons & Co Ltd of Bedford to form Amalgamated Power Engineering Ltd which was later part of Northern Engineering Industries
