From 1930s focused on buses and coaches and became a major manufacturer after 1945. Incorporated 1951 as Plaxtons (Scarborough) Ltd. 1980 acquired Reeve Burgess Ltd of Pilsley, builders of minibuses. 1987 acquired Kirkby Bus & Coach, motor dealers, and in 1989 acquired Henlys Group, motor dealers, when known as Plaxton Group Plc. Bus building interests then merged with those of Mayflower to form Transbus International, a major bus building business. 2004 certain interests acquired by management and continued as Plaxton Ltd which was acquired by Alexander Dennis in 2007 [2024]
