Traced origins to c1862 when Robert H Peirce, d1878, and Patrick Leslie acquired the failed business of Wilson Ritchie & Co of Cochin. Acted as agency house and as international merchants. 1872 opened London office. Opened several other branches in India. Early on obtained agencies for British India Steam Navigation Co, Lloyds of London, insurance companies, etc, etc. Developed very important interests in coffee, rubber, tea, etc, plantations and associated processing activities.1878 controlled by Stuart Gilkinson. 1901 incorporated. From early 20th promoted numerous plantation, etc, businesses. From 192os developed important cashew nut growing and marketing business.1975 merged with Steel Brothers [2023]
